Medical Mindfulness 202  Founding Cohort

Level 1 gets you to a treatment plan.

Level 2 is what lets you provide the treatment.

Medical Mindfulness 202 is the GPMHSC-accredited FPS Skills Training (Level 2) that gives you the clinical framework, evidence base and practice-ready tools to deliver mindfulness-based FPS as a registered provider.

I'm opening eleven founding cohort places at $597, less than half the standard $1,195, with direct access to Lisa throughout.

Why a founding cohort

MM202 is finished, accredited and ready to go.

I've been through every module myself. What I haven't done yet is watch a full group of GPs move through it start to finish and that's what this cohort is for.

I'm opening eleven places at $597, less than half the standard $1,195 price.
In exchange, I'm asking for your honest feedback as you go: what's clear, what isn't, where the pacing drags, where you want more support - all of it.
Once this cohort finishes and I've made the changes that come out of it, the price returns to $1,195.

This isn't a discount because something is missing.
It's a discount because you're helping me get it right before I open the doors properly. Let's go!

What you'll walk away with

  • GPMHSC-accredited FPS Skills Training (Level 2), recognised by RACGP, ACRRM and MyCPD Home for the 2026-28 triennium.
  • 32 hours CPD: 10 Educational Activities (EA), 12 Reviewing Performance (RP), 10 Measuring Outcomes (MO).
  • Eligibility to register as a GP provider of Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) with Services Australia, and to bill Medicare for delivering FPS to your patients once you're registered.
  • 12 months unlimited access to the course materials.
  • Approximately 8 weeks of structured cohort activity: weekly content, forum discussion, practices, quizzes, assessments, and reflections, around 4 hours a week.
  • Practical, case-based training you can use with patients immediately.
  • A formal tax invoice for your records and for any subsidy claim.

What working with me looks like

MM202 is genuinely interactive, that's built into the course itself, not something unique to this round. Every cohort gets:

  • Weekly discussion and peer learning on the course forums.
  • Structured weekly reflections and a mid-course task, reviewed personally.
  • Two live webinars a year with me.
  • Direct contact with me as needed if something isn't working or you're stuck.

What's different about the founding cohort specifically is how available I am within that. With a small group and your feedback actively shaping the course as we go, expect closer, faster contact from me than a later, larger intake will receive.

This is for you if:

  • You're a working GP or GP in training in Australia
  • You've already completed Level 1 Mental Health Skills Training (MHST), a prerequisite for FPS ST
  • You want to offer patients evidence-based psychological strategies (CBT, interpersonal therapy, psychoeducation, relaxation strategies) in house
  • You can commit around 4-5 hours a week for 8 weeks, and are willing to give feedback as you go

This isn't for you if:

  • You haven't yet completed Level 1 MHST (get in touch and I can point you toward that first)
  • You're looking for something passive you can complete on autopilot
  • You've already completed FPS ST and hold GPMHSC accreditation from another provider
  • You can't commit to the weekly forums, feedback and reflection work for this round

About your convenor

I'm Lisa Hunter Smith, founder of Armchair Medical and convenor of Medical Mindfulness since 2020. I've spent over 25 years helping people find their best selves, working alongside organisations including the Black Dog Institute, RACGP, ACRRM, Beyond Blue, the University of Louisville, Business for Doctors, and MyCPD Home.
My training includes MBSR through UMass and Duke University, a trauma-sensitive mindfulness certification and mindfulness teacher training, and I'm currently completing a PhD.
MM202 comes out of that work: built for GPs who want practical, evidence-based skills they can use with patients, not another course to just get through.

What GPs have said about training with me

Here's some feedback from GPs who completed Medical Mindfulness 101.

MM202 is a different course, built for a different stage of practice, but it's the same convenor and the same standard.

Dr K., General Practitioner

“You should be congratulated for bringing this to the medical profession, and the wider community. It's amazing, when I trained, medical schools had no focus on doctors looking after themselves, so they can look after others. Now they can! Keep up the fantastic work.”

Dr M., General Practitioner

“I am so surprised by how much my life has changed in the space of a few months. A few months ago I was considering quitting my job as I was so burnt out and miserable at work. Increasing mindfulness and having moments of mindfulness throughout my day at work has transformed them. I honestly feel like a new person.”

Eleven places, then this closes

I'm capping this cohort at eleven GPs.

Once they're filled, the founding cohort closes and the course returns to its standard price and format.

A note on the GPMHSC subsidy

Eligible GPs may be able to claim an $800 reimbursement from GPMHSC after successfully completing accredited FPS ST (Level 2 Focussed Psychological Strategies) and registering as an FPS provider with Services Australia.

This is paid by GPMHSC directly, not by us, and is subject to their eligibility criteria and a limited, first-come pool of subsidies. It isn't guaranteed, we can't apply on your behalf and the reimbursement can take 6 to 8 weeks to arrive after GPMHSC confirms eligibility.

Please review the current eligibility rules on the GPMHSC website (Click Here).
